The Benefits of Pumpkin Seeds

Pumpkin seeds offer nutritional content, unbeknownst to all. These are protein, magnesium, zinc and copper. Protein aids in keeping a healthy immune system. A healthy immune system makes us less susceptible to common colds and bacteria. Magnesium and zinc on the other hand also help in better absorption of minerals. Pumpkins, aside from having its usual benefits of providing nutritional benefits for our body, are also the star of the annual Halloween celebration.

Benefits of Pumpkin Seeds

Pumpkin seeds are also used in cooking as well. They are not just cooked as part of the viands but as part of appetizers, snacks, and desserts. Being creative will turn these seeds into wonderful menus.  Many like the taste of these seeds – a little bit salty, and of course the challenge of cracking the shell before reaching the edible part.  The good news is that these seeds are usually available at local supermarkets without the shells, ready to be consumed.

Another use for pumpkin seed is its oil. Oil is extracted from pressing the dried seeds, mostly popular in European countries like Slovenia and Austria. Although not proven, in the olden days the oils extracted from a variety of pumpkin seeds were used in the treatment of BPH (Benign prostatic hyperplasia), or enlargement of the male’s prostate.

In some areas of the world, people grow squash in their backyard.  Mostly, they use squash for preparing vegetable soup mixed with leafy vegetables.  In other parts, people are familiar of the names pumpkin and zucchini. Actually, they are just relatives.  The seeds are oftentimes served roasted and salted. They can be prepared at home, or can be bought in packed products sold in stores. The seeds are yummy, and nutty. They are perfect snacks, anytime.
