Basmati brown, also known as “unpolished rice”, is a variety of long grain rice traditionally grown in the foothill of the Himalayan regions of India and Pakistan and its name is associated with its geographical origin. Compared to other types of brown rice, Basmati has longer and thinner grains. It cooks more quickly compared to typical brown rice and its aroma and flavor makes it a popular choice for many dishes.
Generally, brown rice is richer in nutrients than its white rice relatives, and brown basmati rice is one of the most nutrient-rich of them all. Brown basmati rice contains vitamins and minerals that correspond to its rich flavor and aroma. However, one downside to brown basmati rice is that it can be difficult to come by in the United States, owing to the fact that it’s a less common variety of rice in the country.

Because of Basmati’s high vitamins and minerals content, it is said to minimize colon cancer risk, lowers cholesterol level and provides significant cardiovascular benefits for post-menopausal women.
